Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me with this because I have spent several days trying to get the configuration right and trying everything mentioned in the forums but nothing seems to work.  I am on a windows 2003 server and running SQL Server 2005 and it is my own installation (not a hosting environment).  I have stumbled through all the instructions for DNN and have reached the point where when I go to the http://localhost/dotnetnuke URL, I get an error indicating that it can not connect to the database with an sql exception of login failed for user DSD-WIN\dnnuser. Or alternately, I get a message indicating a DotNetNuke Upgrade Error with the statement that the ASSEMBLY VERSION does not match the DATABASE VERSION and that the login failed for DSD-WIN\dnnuser because the user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. The two error messages seem to alternate.

The machine name is DSD-WIN and I am set up for windows authentication and the user DSD-WIN\dnnuser is set up as a login in SQL and I have verified it can connect using SQL Management Studio.  I have also made the default database of the user to be dotnetnuke and added the role of db_owner to the user for dotnetnuke database.

I have also in the web.config file set up the connection string and appsetting strings according to the instructions with the server name, uid, and pwd.

I have added the user DSD-WIN\dnnuser to be a member of all of the SQLServer things, IIS_WPG, and even Administrators.  Nothing seems to help.

I have also tried changing the authentication section in the web.config to use the impersonate=true and authentication mode = windows section instead of the authentication mode = forms.  That also did not help.

Any ideas as to what to try next would be appreciated, I feel like I am shooting in the dark.
Thanks,
Deb

I have logged in to the windows server as dnnuser and have verified that I can connect using the 'SQL Server Management Studio' using the dnnuser account.  I have not been able to find where to change the setting in SQL server to allow both types of authentication.

Thanks,
Deb

OK, use the Windows account (Probably Administrator) in 'Windows auth....'), with this account you can, after check if you connect to sql with dnn account using 'Sql manager'.

Bye

(Friendly recommendation) Always exhaust your search for info before posting Deb. SQL help should have that info as well as MSDN. I don't have SQL Management Studio to give you the exact location but in Enterprise Manager (SQL 200) you would right-click the SQL instance and select Properties and then the Security tab.
