One important thing I would like to point out with regards to this thread:

It's not just the newb's that are complaining about the moderation.  Mitch, John, Robax, myself, etc.  have all probably been un-moderated for a long time. It is still a pain for us as well. But the thing that bothers me the most is that there have been many threads regarding this issue and a few posts by the core team but a reason for our pain that makes sense has never been given.  Outside of "tough crap that's the way it is".  I have said that this issue, as well as several others, is not good marketing and probably turns off newcomers. The post by the DNN newcomer above regarding "community" is proof.

There is another recent thread regarding speed of projects that also mentions the term "closed door".  This is the atmosphere DNN has created for it's portal/project.

Mitch I think you need to create a DNN public forum site and invite people like John, Nina, and many of the other DNN supporters to post blog's there. As after three years I think I have finally figured out that "tough crap that's the way it is" is the way it is always going to be.

Does anybody else miss the old asp.net DNN forums??????

Greg

On the positive side however, is that the moderation means that Sebastian has to read every post and he just can't resist replying to nearly all of them

lol - that's not true, I scan most of the posts (either during moderation or according to its titles) and only reply, when I feel, that I might contribute sth of value.

PS: AFAIR my first posts in asp.net forums had been moderated as well - and I had no problems, that they needed a few minutes or even hours to be approved.

I think we are all open to anyone posting at these forums.  There are probably others too.

John beat me to it!

My forum is a public forum with NO moderation, and I get instant post notifications and try to respond as quick as I can, I know that John and the others do it as well.

I just keep posting here as a courtsey, and I notice more and more people coming to my forums as I can actually hold back and forth conversations there due to the post notifications etc.  With these forums, and the number of posts that I replay to without notifications it is too hard for me to keep track of every thread that I have poped my head into...

Maybe a script could be run, which auto-authorises all users with over 25 posts (or 100 posts)?

And if there is any abuse from spammers with over 100 posts - their account could be disabled.

I can't imagine anyone going to such extreme lenghts to spam then.

sounds fair?

mark.
