Hello,
I had a new user register at my website but I never got the normal e-mail that goes out to the admin. My version is DNN 4.05.05. Can someone tell me where to configure that? E-mail does work and the smtp test works as well but I wasn't automatically notified.

AFAIR there have been versions with issues sending out notification, cou should upgrade to latest DNN version.

I would really prefer a solution for my version rather than upgrading. I have many many hours and multiple modules installed with means and upgrade at this point would almost force me to start from scratch.... Is there something I can check or is there some type of work around I can try? Thanks in advance.

please read http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/186/Default.aspx how to perform an upgrade, it usually only takes an hour (but be sure to have a backup and ideally try on a local copy first),

The idea that people should simply upgrade to fix errors may be a bit too simplistic & unrealistic.  It may only take an hour to run the techncial upgrade, but all the prep and testing around the upgrade may take days or weeks of work.  My last upgrade project took 40-50 hours (for one installation running 20 portals).  I'm planning a 4.8.1 upgrade an expect to spend that much or more.

Why?  Because I had to.....

  • check with every module vendor to see if they supported the new DNN version & get advice on the best way to upgrade their modules.
  • buy new module versions
  • check these forums, bug tracker, etc to ensure I was ready for known problems.
  • run multiple test upgrades until all modules and the core upgraded without error.
  • regression test all functionality on existing portals to ensure it still worked post upgrade (and that I had no data loss).
  • review new features / functions to see how I should use them (or turn them off...like caching) in my environment.
  • run the final upgrade and keep my fingers crossed

With all that said, what do I think the solution is?  I'd suggest critical bug fix patches released by the core team.  I even think this could be a value added subscription service that people should pay for.  The ones needing such a service (like me) are using DNN for critical business functions are are willing to pay a reasonable fee to get small bug patches and avoid a major upgrade.  It's work the core team is doing anyway (bug fixes).  The only extra would be making patch downloads for specific bug fixes.  The assumption would be that these patches would be overwritten at each upgrade and we would start clean at the same point as everyone else after each full upgrade.
