I have experienced a similar problem. I have two portals. I registered a user on the second portal that already exists on the portal 1. I did not receive any errors during the registration. Now I go back to the portal 2, and try to login with the same user, I get the profile of the user registered on the portal 1.

I looked at the database. I could not see the profile of the user that I registered on portal 2 in the database. I see two entries in the userportal table that allows the user to login to both portal 1 and portal 2.

It is a good idea that the user does not need to register twice if both the portals have similar functionalities. However during the registration, it needs to show some message to the user.

I am using 04.06.02 with two portals. When I register on the second portal using an e-mail address of a user in the first portal, i get this error:

"A user already exists for the email address specified..."

WHen I try to retrieve password in portal 2 with that e-mail, it says that account does not exist (this works in portal 1, where the account does exist).

I am guessing it is linked to the fact that I have specified in web.config to require unique e-mail address.

I think these must all be the same errors.

Does anyone know the status of this? I'm running into this now and it is creating conflicts when I'm trying to set up discrete portals in a single DNN install.

I can confirm this error.  Is there a work-around or fix on the way?

Can you post the steps to recreate this problem? I just tried to register a user that belongs in one portal on another without any problems(*). I also created a new portal with that user as the administrator without any problems.

* My first attempt to register the user did fail with the error that everyone is getting but that's because I used the wrong password. The user has to use the same password across portals and, to my knowledge, this has always been the case in DNN.
