Hi Juan,

If you use the autoping/trackback feature available in metaPost, then the purpose of this feature is to scan the pages related to the URLs in the post for Pingback functionality.  Since Trackback is the predecessor to pingback and since they both attempt to communicate with another blog regarding the fact that a link to that resource exists in your post, metaPost is written to attempt communication using both protocols.  Of course, if your post doesn't contain URLs which link to Trackback enabled pages, then this code isn't executed.  Similarly, if the URLs in your post don't point to Postback enabled pages, then the code isn't executed.
