I'm just getting up to speed on DNN, and I'm using an older version, but I do have access to the drive it's on.  If I just drop a file into the root directory using FTP, and then hit the sync link on the file manager page, I should be good to go, yes?

thx.

Yes, I use that method quite often.  Sometimes it is a heck of a lot easier than using the built-in file manager upload.

Excellent, thanks for the tip.  I did have another question though.  When I put directories in the portal root (portals/0/blah) nothing shows up in the file manager.  I'm wondering if I can link the files anyway.  There's a lot of policies and procedures that we're putting on our intranet, and it'd be nice to be able to file them properly instead of dropping them into a huge bucket.

thx,
M@

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're asking, but I did run into a problem when I started sorting items into seperate sub-folders.  If I remember right, it was a permissions issue, where you set who was allowed to view items in sub-folders based off of security roles.  The settings are in the built-in file manager.

Eww, I can see how that might cause a problem.  I'm also using version 2 right now, so that might have something to do with it.

Thanks for getting back to me.
