Hey All,

        I am currently on a shared server hosted by easycgi.com and was trying to modify my connection string to point at a new database that I have on my private server (I ran out of space so I need to store my data on a bigger database). I have created a database on the private server and was able to connect to it throught a DSN successfully. When I try to modify the connection string on my shared plan to transfer any future to the database on my private server I recieve an error message. The connection string that I am trying to modify looks like:

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 -->
<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=mssql.easycgi.com;Database=xxxxx;uid=xxxxx;pwd=xxxxxx;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
</connectionStrings>

I am changing Server=mssql.easycgi.com;Database=xxxxx;uid=xxxxx;pwd=xxxxxx and replacing it with the information from my new database however it is not connecting properly. Is there anything else I need to change?

Well there are a few things to look at.

1.) Before you do anything, be sure that you take a restored copy of your production database from EasyCGI otherwise you will loose data
2.) Ensure that you do not have firewall issues that are not allowing the connection to your private server
3.) Ensure that you are allowing remote connections to your SQL Server database.

Also, a few things you might try some of the tricks I have mentioned in my blog to keep your site database size down.  As unless you have a lot of content you shouldn't be too bad off.  I have 2500 users on my DNN install, about 150 pages,  a few hundred blog articles, and ~700 posts in my forum and I am using under 50Mb of database space
