I am running DNN 4.0.2,  SQL 2005, MS Server 2003

Ok,  I have spent hours / days reading through the forums and have found that a number of people are having the same problem but, no one has offered an answer.

My site was working fine for weeks.  Tonight I tried to login in and it would accept my password but, non of the Admin / Host menu or other related controls would show up.

If I go to my server and login in from there (running local) things work fine but, from any other computer you can login but you will not getting any admin related content.

Also, if I attempt to login and enter the wrong password on purpose I do get the message regarding invalid login information.  I also have the Users Online module on the home page.  That module will show the last user as the user id that I last logged in with, which is a user that has admin access to the portal.

I check the log and the log shows a successful login also.  The only error I have in my log is this:
Core Localization File Not Found: : ~/App_GlobalResources/GlobalResources.en-US.resx

and that error is from a couple of days ago.

PLEASE HELP.  Has anyone run into this problem and found a way to get this working.  I really do not want to just re-intall DNN again.

Just to establish a baseline here... DNN doesn't dynamically change its behavior on its own after a few weeks.  So we need to be looking for what has changed in your environment.  I would NOT advise reinstalling... this is not a DNN installation problem, but rather one of configuration either in DNN's aliasing or in your environment.

Most typically, this issue of "looking" like you got logged in relates to DNN simply defaulting to the root portal because it is not recognizing the URL.  This could relate to DNS forwarding, use of an unrecognized URL, etc.  And it would account for why it works from your local server if you're addressing it there as localhost ( though there is not enough information here to make a diagnosis ).

Can you do a couple things?

1. Provide the contents of the PortalAlias table, so we can see what is listed there.

2. Tell us what URL you are using from outside ( where its not working ) and from inside ( where it IS working ).

3. Give some info about how you have DNS setup to point to this installation.

Cheers

I was able to get things working.  From a remote computer I registered a new user.  Then logged in with the new user id I created and the verification code that was e-mailed to me.  After logging in I then logged out and logged back in using host.  At that point everything was fine.

As for your questions:

1) Content of the PortalAlias table. (Note there are two portals, Portal 0 is one I use for testing.)

1 0 dnn4.dipple.com
3 1 robotics.dipple.com
4 1 www.hudsonvillerobotics.us
5 1 hrobotics.dyndns.org

2) On the server I added this entry to the hosts file:  192.168.1.100   robotics.dipple.com
Then on the server I type in this URL http;//hrobotics.dipple.com

3) I use dyndns.org for my dipple.com domain.    - Not sure just what exactly you want to know here.

John Mitchell's solution to the "lost login" problem worked for me (I'm using DNN 4.6.0). Check out this link:

Glen, thank you so much for posting this link. I've been searching and getting no help on this for the past few weeks. This is a perfect help and solution for those of us who are not developers.
