I was trying to upgrade from 4.3.4 to 4.8.2.  I was running into the exact same issue in the 4.4.0 log.  "Error: HelpURL"  I followed this guys inscructions

He basically says that some scripts run out of order and so instead of performing one upgrade from 4.3.4 to 4.8.2 I performed three upgrades from 4.3.4 to 4.3.7 to 4.4.1 to 4.8.2.  Actually I am just about to perform the last upgrade, I'm just happy I got past 4.4.0 without error.  Hope This Helps.
