My site is currently running on 04.03.07 and its working fine but I really hate the URLs....so was assuming I need to upgrade to at least 04.07 in order to implement human friendly URLS.....

1) Since I didn't install the original site myself but have been maintaining it for the last couple of months, how easy is the upgrade process?

2) How hard is the process to go back and rename existing pages?

3) I realize that this could impact pages already indexed by google, can I have the current unfriendly URLs autoforward to the human friendly one or is this not necessary since it's still the same page?

4) Anyone interested in the project (I'm taking a leap of faith and assuming I won't be able to do it myself).....

Mitch,

As far as how easy it is to upgrade from 4.3.7 to 4.7 or 4.8.  I would first read the documentation on this site about upgrading there are a couple things you need to make sure that you import from your old web config into your new web config file.

1.  connection strings

2. Machine validation Keys both the encryption and decryption keys.

3. any custom changes you made to the web.config file should be brought over as well

4. If you have an object qualifier make sure you copy that over

as far as the upgrade process I would follow the instructions on this site

http://blog.strohlsitedesign.com/Blog/tabid/66/EntryID/102/Default.aspx

I used this guys site last time I upgraded, and everything went perfectly.  I have also recomened this site 3 or 4 other times in my other posts on this forrum so you can view the results there if you would like.

This guys site instructions work better then any other instructions on upgrading that I could give

Hope this helps

Mike

I also have a detailed guide that shows you how to make the needed changes for the web.config etc. at http://www.mitchelsellers.com

I would also be interested in discussing potentially doing this for you, e-mail me at msellers@iowacomputergurus.com if you would like to talk specifics.
