Non professional and new to DNN and wished to try it for a Public Hospital  Intranet. (in place of FrontPage). I cannot get the Starter Pack to install into Visual Web Developer 2005- gives an error now as "absoute path required - contact supplier" and VWD has not stopped.
Hopefully the information below may help.

  • I did the initial install with the StarterPack vsi file on a networked server and this seemed to go OK – said it had installed the components properly as shown in the installation guide. However when “new web” in file menu of VWD was clicked  it hung. I tried to reinstall the Starter Pack but this time it gave the error “needs an absolute path”. I did a full repair of VWD and this did not seem to work with new file even before trying the starter pack. I tried the starter pack and got the absolute error again.
At one point by trying open web rather than file menu I did get a list but DNN was not there as a choice
  • The directory from which the  starter pack install was in directory of my Documents but My Documents was mapped to a share on a server and I wonder if that is where the problem has arisen with reference to paths.
  • There is an log file error (dd_vserror80.txt)  in VS which gives the following entry
[02/13/06,10:52:16] VS Scenario: [2] Failed to pass the Warnings/Blocks checks in CVSScenario::Start().
  • Under Application Data for my user in Documents and Settings there is an entry under App Data/ Microsoft/VWDExpress/8.0/ProjectTemplatesCache/VisualWebDeveloper that refres to DotNetNuke.zip – but this contains two aspx files.
  • Workstation is XP SP2 with SQL Server 2000 Installed. VWD 2005 and ASP.Net 2  has been installed and was working - the web server is on a different server. Prior to this there was beta version of VWD but this was removed before the release version was installed.
Previous versions of Visual Studio have been on (not 2005) but these were removed some time ago, but there still seems references to them in program files etc.with few Directories still left but not much in them.

I have completely run out of ideas and any help would be great. Somehow it seems that DNN has not installed in VWD correctly and even despite a repair/reinstall there is some reference to its path. I have serached registry for "dotnetnuke" but with no look.

Many thanks
