so theres not a css or xml ion the dnn portal that i can modify to simple hide or remove the forget password link? thats all i want to do

Tom, open up Admin/Authentication/Login.ascx and find the following line.

<asp:Linkbutton id="cmdPassword" resourcekey="cmdForgotPassword" cssclass="CommandButton" text="Forgot Password?" runat="server" />

and add a Visible="False" to it

<asp:Linkbutton id="cmdPassword" resourcekey="cmdForgotPassword" cssclass="CommandButton" text="Forgot Password?" runat="server" Visible="false" />

NOTE: You'll have to make this change everytime your upgrade your DNN install.

Unfortunately not.  You have to edit the login.ascx control to remove the Forgot Password line (or remark it out or set its visibility to false).  The login.ascx file is part of any upgrade, so you need to edit this again after an upgrade as well.  But that's a good suggestion for a functionality change, maybe enter it into Gemini if it's not there already.

SSL is problematic in DNN at best, but you should be able to require SSL for the login.  I haven't done this in a long time and don't remember what I did then, we no longer use DNN on a SSL secured site.  If I recall, it wasn't a lot more than configuring IIS and the entire site for SSL, though I may have made a change to code too.

On the new login page, there isn't anything displayed if you are logged in.  Log out and you should see the login fields.  The login controls in DNN aren't as configurable as they could be, but they're getting better.

Mike and Jeff

Thanks for the reply,

I was quite confused when I saw no form fields. However that makes perfect sense.

I am glad that SSL is getting better in DNN it is really needed in many cases.

I suppose this is the last thing I was wondering about the Login and registering of users to a DNN site is this:

The links "Register and Login" that are present on default install are they configurable or will this now point to the new login page I create? (with the sneaky can't see ya till I logout) page?

A quick and dirty way to just hide it, is to look at the page source and find the ID for it,. then add something like

#dnn_ctr_Login_tdPassword {display:none}

to your stylesheet.
