Hi,

One feature I like of the News is the ability to create/define roles and show News based on putting members into roles. Isnt possible?

Just to clarify your post.  Are you saying you would like to see individual news items be filtered by role or the whole module be only available to specific roles?

In either case, the first would be really impossible to implement with rss news feeds.  There is no 'role' element in the specification.  That said, I guess you could add a custom namespace and do that type of thing, but you'ld have to create the feed by editing it yourself, as I know of no such news interface for custom namespaces.  Then, on the other side you would need a custom xsl translation file to include the element, and/or a custom RSS news reader to act as the filter for the items.

In the second case, the current news module should support the same type of settings for viewing as other DNN modules in that you could limit the view of the module by member role.  Now, I really haven't tried that type of thing but I will.

Just give me some kind of clarification, because I may be reading it totally wrong.

Cheers

sorry for lacking of info, for my requirement needs filtering by individual vs specific roles. for example i have 3 roles, A & B & C, A can send news for all roles, A only, B only, or C only or both A & B, B & C or so on. This user management same like forum module ( u can define thread by roles). So when user roles in B log in, they only see news depend on user roles.

Still confusing to me.  The News RSS module is not a sender of rss news but a consumer.  I don't know of any module that is build to send news items by role, which would be difficult to do anyway, since there is no real way to filter that type of item with rss.

I think what you would need is an etirely different approach with a custom build module.  You could define a News module to display for only certain roles, but the newsfeed you use would have to be specialized for only that role.  Maybe you could set up a combination of modules like the announcements and new modules to work together to do this kind of thing, but it would be very difficult IMHO to provide the type of usage you are describing.

Hey, but don't let me stop you from pursuing a solution.  It would be nice to see, but I don't know of a single module that would provide these features.

Ok, i'll try to build this module with different approch, base on Forum Module. The idea is same as Forum Administration (Manage Forums/Group Add, Edit and change sort order of forums and forum groups). So, i think this is possible to set up a News Modules with this solution (News Administration : Manage Newsfeed/Group). The problem is i cant even compile the source code of Forum Module, than make me harms to modify this module. If any idea to me to take some features (eg: Forum Administration) from others module (eg: Forum Module)? At least, News Module can display for specialize roles, base on Newsfeed.
