Thanks Dwayne,

I had success installing DNN, after reading some online step by step post.

There still are some remaining questions:

  1. How to transport the final portal to a host?
  2. If it is not a 'DNN aware host', will it still work?
  3. Is there any link to help me understand the transfer of a portal to an Internet Hosting site?

1)  DNN isn't conducive to developing a site and content locally and transporting to the server.  But you can copy all the files, adjust the web.config for the proper database connection string and do a backup/restore of the database to get your site initially to a server.  From there on, test at home and then duplicate the content/modules in the live version.

2)  Maybe.  If it has everything DNN needs, it will work (ASP.NET, SQL, etc.).  I have never installed DNN on a "DNN Aware Host" or used a hosting service that specializes in DNN.  I have used several that have no idea what DNN is.

3)  Not really.  Install DNN to your host with a fresh install, and work on your site using DNN.  You'll be less frustrated.  :)

Dear Jeff,

So, if I understood correctly, the preferred way is to install DNN into the hosting server, as an ASP application (maybe with some help from the hosting company support people to have all the requirements in place), and them use it as I have already done locally.

If this is so, it is really a very good way to develop and mantain portals. What a freeware product!

That's the simplest way, and most usable.  DNN installation is not hard, but a hosting company that will install it for you and maintain it, such as those that sponsor this site, are often the best choice for beginners.
