for programmers, the best resource might be the source code ;) while all others might prefer another reading. http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/ProfessionalDotNetNuke/tabid/815/Default.aspx

If you have a general idea of what you're looking for (i.e. module development, skinning, localization), the best place to start is the docs for your release. Download them here. Not to take anything away from any books, but these guides are usually a decent starting point.

Hi - got to www.dotnetnuke.com (home page) - down from the top a bit, on the middle-right is a logo for "Guided Tour".

I also want to say that from the main page also, is the best concept definition for beginners of skins, containers, modules. At the upper right, Click "About" and then choose "Skinning and Graphic Design".

Here's the link to the documentation. Under each software version, it's the first item. All your questions are answered extensively there!

Thanks Aaron - but I must say, that for a beginner that documentation leaves a lot to be desired. But I am struggling through it.

If I may say, what is missing is:

  • a basic concepts guide from a DNN site admin perspective (I have taken the Guided Tour - which is a small start)
  • again, a basic concepts guide from a developer/extensibility point of view. (e.g. a tutorial for creating your own simple module and skin/container)

Thanks

Jeff
