xp sp 2, with SQL 2005 express on same box...

I've created the database using info found in other posts, but I just can't seem to get DNN Installed using anything other than the APP_DATA\database.mdf - i'm thinking my web.config file is not correct, but I can't see what i'm doing wrong.  any ideas?

 <connectionStrings>
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
  <add
    name="SiteSqlServer"
    connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|database.mdf;"
    providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=.\sqlexpress;Database=hb;uid=dnn;pwd=xxxxxxxx;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
-->
  </connectionStrings>
 <appSettings>
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
  <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|database.mdf;"/>
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=.\sqlexpress;Database=hb;uid=dnn;pwd=xxxxxxxx;"/>
    -->

Rick if you look at the code you posted you'll see the section you put your connection string in is surrounded by <!-- and --> while the section above isn't. Those are comment blocks in a .config file so your connection string is ignored while the one that points to database.mdf isn't. Change your web.config so that it looks like the following (Just note that I moved a couple of the --> to different places and if you have access to something that displays html nicely (DreamWeaver, GoLive, Visual Studio) you'll see the changes more clearly):

<connectionStrings>
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express
  <add
    name="SiteSqlServer"
    connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|database.mdf;"
    providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> -->
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005  -->
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=.\sqlexpress;Database=hb;uid=dnn;pwd=xxxxxxxx;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
 <appSettings>
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
  <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|database.mdf;"/> -->
  <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules-->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=.\sqlexpress;Database=hb;uid=dnn;pwd=xxxxxxxx;"/>
