how to delete some module definition when update it, for  example as follows:

define A [game enter]

right now I do not need the definition any more, and in the update procedure I can do something with implementing the IUpgrade interface . But how to d achieve it, including the database record delete and the control delete?

baldwin,

When you upgrade your module, the new version of the manifest (.dnn) file is used to replace the old version. That should take care of any changes to your module definition. Also, when you upgrade you can include a SqlDataProvider file that will run (neesd to have a higher version than the previous module) and you can put logic inside to make any necessary database changes.

Does that answer your questions?

Take care,

While the normal upgrade process will take care of changes to the module definition in the database and your new version's SqlDatProvider file will update your module's specific tables and stored procedures, I'm not sure if the upgrade will actually remove any controls relating to the no longer used definition from the file system.  I'd have to look through the installer code but it would be quicker to try the upgrade and see if the unused controls were removed. If they are not removed, you should create a text file named 'xx.xx.xx.txt' where xx.xx.xx matches the version of the upgrade's manifest and SqlDataProvider file. In the xx.xx.xx.txt file list (one per line) the names (with application relative path - for example '\DesktopModules\MyModuleFolder\oldcontrolname.ascx') of the control and if appropriate vb or cs code behind files) to be removed.  Include the xx.xx.xx.txt file in the upgrade's module package zip file. You will also need to reference the xx.xx.xx.txt file in a < file > node in the dnn manifest.  Note also that even if your upgrade does not need a xx.xx.xx.SqlDataProvider file for other purposes, an empty one will be necessary to ensure that the xx.xx.xx.txt file is processed.

Thanks for your response. I totally understand the above procedure you mentioned and do it easily.  but the emphasis is how I delete the database records cleanly related to the definition and if more than one page had installed the module , not just the REAL files which can be deleted with xx.xx.xx.txt. And which is better, custom sql or program to complete the task. If I choose the sql to do it, what table I will consider? I know Table  ModuleControls, ModuleDefinitions will need, and more? Can you give me a clue, for example, some sql which do it.
