We seem to have a problem where we "can" login to our DNN site at home, and our provider "also can" login on any number of their computers.

However, our customers "cannot" login. When the customer attempts to login, and they are a register user, there is a delay and then they are
returned back to the home page. The login was unsuccessful and no message informs them of an error. I have also tried to login at my work
computer, as a customer and as an administrator (superuser), and this attempt failed also.

The following is a reply from a customer:

"It is not accepting the login.
There seems to be a javascript error/message???? coming up down bottom of screen (when loading initial page) but too quick to identify or make sense of - sorry! Once you go to login screen and type in username and password it takes you straight back to home page and seems to be trying to reload but takes an awful long time and almost appears to time out??. Once finally loaded there is no change to the page as before login."

How may we diagnose what is the cause of this login failure?

  • which browser is used by your customer?
  • did he try to delete site cookies?
  • does he have JavaScript enabled?

Hello,

We tried the cookies, etc and had no luck. However, we evetually found that a re-direction of an alias name
was IP address specific, and we had changed this in our web.config connection string. We will try this next
as we found we can login under the origional web name. The alias is what didn't work. We didn't clue on to
this at first.

Cheers, Colin

The redirection had nothing to do with the problem. Just an ignorant  distraction :)

The problem turned out to be simply enabling cookies for the site in Internet Explorer. We use Mozilla Firefox
and never saw this problem. I thought I'd tested with I.E, but obviously not the login. We'll post a note on the
site warning I.E users to this issue.

Cheers, Colin
