While installing the scripts I get the following error:

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Upgrading Database to Version ERROR: See c:\inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\04.04.00.log for more information...FAILURE 400 - Conversion from string "ERROR: See c:inetpubwwwrootDotNe" to type 'Integer' is not valid.

And then the script portion seems to hang and I cannot move forward. 62 tables and 328 spa were installed. I have no idea how far I got as far as the db install or how I can move forward. An help is appreciated.

Hmm.. Are you using the "install" package from DotNetNukes website?

here is what I see.  In the programming world the "\" (backslash) character is a reserved character, or an "escape" character.  meaning whatever is after it is dropped and converted to something else.

Can you paste your web.config file contents here.  use the "paste as plain text" button in the editor here.  Don't remove any of the SQL lines, but do mask your ID/Password from it.  It's looking to me like you specified a folder somewhere you shouldn't have, so it's now trying to push a string into an integer, and on top of it all, it's stripping out the "\" from your string, which is kind of just a side effect as the string is where it's not supposed to be anyhow. :->

hi i have got this error too

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Upgrading Database to Version ERROR: See C:\dnn481\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\04.04.00.log for more information...FAILURE 400 - Conversion from string "ERROR: See C:dnn481ProvidersData" to type 'Integer' is not valid.

I haven't changed a thing in web.config so its original as it is, however my database name is dnnbase and when I wah creating it I had to choose any other collation than by defaut so I choose the Latin1_General_BIN and it is not in app_data folder I have created it with studio express , conection tested ok with dnn setup and then this error... and it jams here... also when tasting DB connection I have unchecket integrated security to sive login and password otherwise nothing changed everything as it was

Me too...

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Upgrading Database to Version ERROR: See D:\inetpub\vhosts\lr-demo.co.uk\httpdocs\dotnetnuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\04.04.00.log for more information...FAILURE 400 - Conversion from string "ERROR: See D:inetpubvhostslr-dem" to type 'Integer' is not valid.

This was a brand new DNN installation 4.5.3 installed by our Plesk control panel software. I tested it before upgrading to 4.8.1 and it was working fine. I downloaded the 4.8.1 Upgrade package, backed up the web.config file, copied over the 4.8.1 files from the upgrade 4.8.1 zip on top of 4.5.3 installation and then renamed the release.config file to web.config. Finally I copied the <connectionstrings> and <MachineKey> elements from my backup of the 4.5.3 web.config file into the new web.config file. Connected to the website and ran the wizard. Everything fine until it got to the database scripts when bang I get the error message above.

Should this even be running the 4.4.0 scripts as these have already been run on my 4.5.3 installation during the original installation? I have checked for the 04.04.00.log mentioned in the error message and it doesn't exist. (I have a 04.04.01.log empty)

yep the log file does not exist because the installation freezes before it creates any log file so there is no file where it says there will be a log... I have no idea what is this problem and nobody is helping :(

ok  after I lookedfor answers in this forum I came to this post http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/199098/scope/posts/Default.aspx

I have corrected the permission settings on NETWORK SERVICE to full controll  and I have deleated my DB  and created new one with collation to Latin1_General_CI_AS. EVERYTHING WORKED !!!!!

good luck to you all !
