Hello all,

I'm a .Net developer by trade with many years behind me and in the last year I've been concerntrating on ASP.Net.

Now I would like to build an ecommerce site for a client friend of mine and typically I'd create something by making use of features like master pages, user controls, membership forms authentication, the profile object, caching and maybe make use of some AJAX.

The main advantage of using DotNekNuke for me that I can see is the whole CMS side of things which would enable my client to manage the content without me developing something special for them.

The big question I have is will I easily be able to make use of all my existing development expertise in DotNekNuke or will I find it rather frustrating?

Thank for your insight.

Matt

Matt,

using DotNetNuke framework reliefs the burden of you to implement all the core services and allows you to concentrate on the functional requirements of your customers. Of course, there is an additional learning curve, cause an additional framework needs to be captured in mind and some concepts differ from ASP.Net 2.0 (e.g. Skins and containers instead of master pages) but allows for mor powerful solutons and the pluggable interface for module, skin and language pack installation (providers will follow in DNN 5) allows you and your customer to benefit from the selection of thousands of existing modules, skins etc.

IMO it is at least worth to have a deeper look ;-)

Check out the gettting started page in resources menu above and the module development tutorials from Michael Washington at dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com.
