Hi Barry

I suppose it is at least something not having to pay extra, but still the hassle.

I am wondering if it is an industry thing... if hosting companies really don't care about customer service, and what I think most small business would need to do just to retain customers.

Not sure why they can't let you (& me) keep what we have but change the pricing so it is more in line with current pricing. Saves us the hassle, they have their years of revenue plus continuing revenue at the current market rates... and it is good customer service.

Thanks for letting me know (if you can PM me who it is, it would be great... still looking for options to change!)

Cheers

David

Hi David, it's Netcetera, www.inetc.net. The servers I currently have are P4 2.8s, and they work fine, naturally, they'd work a little better with 2GB RAM.  I notice that with my current contract I have 100GB allowable traffic and the new machines come wth a 40GB limit.  I have one site that's generating 33GB/Month, but even if I get close to the 40GB limit, it will be cheaper to rent another machine.  Or maybe I could keep my DB server as a p4 2.8 and move to one of their P4D 3.4 GHz machines as it has unlimited traffic, it would be the same price as I'm paying now, but the machines would be quicker.  hey ho, time to do some more thinking/playing. :)

I kinda need to do this rant as I am getting more and more frustrated by my current dedicated server host, CrystalTech.

Have you called them, yes, phone, and asked what they can do to keep a long-term customer from jumping ship to upgrade to new technology?  I've found that almost every service provider, from web host to cable company to cell-phone service to the guy who cuts my lawn is willing to work with long-term customers.  They don't want to lose you, but they don't want to lose their shirts either.  Fees they can discount or eliminate, they usually will.

Try it.

I haven't actually spoken to them... only via a chunk of email exchanged.  (I am in Poland and a few things make it slightly difficult for me)

So... by needing me to make the majority of effort to stay with CrystalTech.... rather than them thinking of how to look after existing customers and coming to me with options... I have been looking elsewhere.

Currently The Planet looks like a very good alternative. Better pricing than CrystalTech, and can get no setup fees, double RAM.   If I am the one having to make the effort I might as well look around too.  Has anyone had good/bad experiences with The Planet?  I am next to 'jumping CrystalTech's ship' and going here.
