I already have a DNN 4.08.02 install setup on GoDaddy, and now want to create a child portal for some specialty topics.  I get the following error when I try:

Error configuring Child PortalAccess to the path 'd:\hosting\vantugcom\whs1' is denied. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.Directory.InternalCreateDirectory(String fullPath, String path, DirectorySecurity dirSecurity) at System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory(String path, DirectorySecurity directorySecurity) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.CreatePortal(String PortalName, String FirstName, String LastName, String Username, String Password, String Email, String Description, String KeyWords, String TemplatePath, String TemplateFile, String HomeDirectory, String PortalAlias, String ServerPath, String ChildPath, Boolean IsChildPortal)

I have tried creating both a child and a parent portal; still get the error.

I have no problem creating a child portal on a local copy I have of the site, which tells me it is something to do with the GoDaddy folder permissions.

Has anyone got or figured out this problem??

Any help/advice is really appreciated.  thx in advance

More than likely, the folder permissions are not being inherited from the parent.

Locally, if you right click on the folder and select properties | security, then click advanced button you will notice two settings (allow inheritable permission and replace permissions). If inheritable is not checked, then the security is not passed on to each child folder.

In a shared hosting environment, I'm not quite sure how you would turn that on. This is a common issue with ASP/DNN where the root folder security is managed manually and set correctly, but it is not inherited by child folders created by the web application.

You may have to have your ISP fix it for you.

If you're using shared hosting at GoDaddy, I don't think you can.

There were a few discussions about these related topics with Shared Hosting at GoDaddy a few months back in this forum that might help you to acheive this, you just have to dig around.

most probablly this issue is due to permission. I am sure there is option in GoDaddy control panel where you can select a folder and set permission. Please look arround if you do not find it then let me know I will also check.

Hello!

You  can go to the File Manager under your hosting account in GoDaddy and look at and change permissions.

I am on GoDaddy and have created multiple parent portals, but I'm having some strange login problems. I did look at the info in www.mynetnuke.com and according to him you have to move your install to the root. I did do that and was able to create the portals. I did not try creating them on the regular goDaddy install in a virtual directory so I can't tell you if that works or not.

Good luck!
