Hi all pros

I have one way that works for me but it seams that it is an old way of doing it, is it so? I am putting my projects side  by side when developing in VS2005 just like we used to do with VS2003 and dotnetnuke version 3 ... is this completely old now? se picture that explains how I do it

the thing is about having project inside the main dotnetnuke project makes the rendering very slow and having single page assemplies of many versions is hard I think to .... how many of you guys are using this old way and how many of you are using the new way? .... how come it is so hard to add a project of the correct projecttype when using the old way? is it because this way is so old I should stop using it ? Or is it because I haven't configured the VS2005 correctly?

We use the "old" Web Application model, rather than the Web Site model.  It looks like your solution is using the Class Library type of project, rather than the Web Application project.  Have you installed Visual Studio SP1?  Web Application projects didn't come with Visual Studio 2005 until SP1.  I definitely agree that it is a pain to keep the modules inside of the website.

Hope it helps,

Ok, I need to square this out properly .... I have got it running like this now ... acctually I hade the dotnetnuke installation project side by side in VS 2005 ... first the classic dotnetnuke installation project as the first project in the solution and then created a new module using the module template from dotnetnuke .vsi package  ..... that went just fin ....

but somehow the VS 2005 sorted out that i didn't need the main (first dotnetnuke installation inside the VS 2005) it was obviously enough that it was installed in the IIS ..... it was when setting my modules (ITARedirect) project settings >> Web >> Use IIS Web Server to the path of the dotnetnuke installation that the main dotnetnuke installation dispeared from the VS 2005 solution ... in my case set to http://localhost/DotNetNuke_04_08_01_InstallRedirect ... is this a Web Application model like you are talking about ? Is this the way the rest of you in the core dotnetnuke team are developing ? ... i still think I have done something not absolutely correct yet because I am not getting a separate dl for the SqlDataprovider

If you want a separate SqlDataProvider assembly, you will need to put the SqlDataProvider into its own project (probably just a Class Library project rather than another Web Application project).  However, in practice, we find that we don't have much of a need to provide two different assemblies.

Hope it helps,
