Greetings all  (first post here)!

I've been using Joomla for the past 3 years and would consider myself an advanced/expert user (not developer) on that platform.  I'm not new to CMS systems but with DNN I'm having a tough time adapting.   I'm sure this is a very basic feature of DNN, but could some kind soul give me  a push in the right direction?

I'm trying to build a file library by category/section that would display all files/pages (tabs?) from that section within a DNN site.

For example:

A menu item, let's say "Apples", from the front page would take you to a page that has a chronological list of files that have been uploaded to the "Apples" section.

I can't seem to get my head around the menuing hierarchy with DNN as it relates to a Category/Sections.  In fact, I'm not sure I completely understand how content is structured in DNN.  Any gentle nudge in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

Cheers!

One big difference with DNN is that it doesn't have a central page and content management interface. Instead, pages are edited and content is managed directly where they are located. There is a page management tool on the Admin menu, but this is not for use by non-admin roles.

You can make DNN function as a basic publishing tool if you assign tabs to page editor roles, let the roles create their own pages below that, add text modules and insert content. However, there are no content heirarchy, categorization or taxonomy tools built into DNN to assist this. These things are provided by third party modules. (One of the first things I harrassed the team about when I came here was the claim that DNN is a CMS, when it isn't. It's an framework within which you can build a CMS. The CMS designation was eventually dropped)

If you browse around Snowcovered and have a look at some of the fancier article publication modules you'll find out more. You'll generally choose a publishing module, put it on a page and configure it for your roles and audience. It will have its own categories and will generate pages on the fly. You'll also find that Joomla generally did this bit better from scratch... but DNN will turn out to be more flexible overall.
