I've followed all the steps in th einstallation video in setting up dotnetnuke. When I log on to http://localhost/dotnetnuke the installation is not completed and I cannot see that it is succefull and thus am not granted access to the portal. Where am I going wrong?

I'm not sure what you mean by the installation is not complete. Did your site finish installing properly? If so, you should be able to navigate to your local site and log in. What is the message you are getting when you try to log in?

No it did not finish installing properly. It looked like it only did a part of the installation and then stopped in the middle. My connection never went down. I did not got a message that said the installation was succesful and that I should access the portal as in the installation video. I then closed my browser and retried it by logging in again to the localhost (http://localhost/dotnetnuke) but then got a message that I do not have permissions on the site/am not logged in.

It sounds like you need to start over again. It is easy enough to do, just delete the files and db and try it again. It is probably easier to do that than to troubleshoot what went wrong with the installation. If you have trouble again, post the response here.
