Install AJAX or the 3.5 version of the framework on the server.

Thanks Jeff

I'm working on it locally, installed .net 3.5 and also installed ajax 1.0 just in case but no joy. this initially happened where I host the site, so I reverted it back to 4.5.5 and then downloaded it so I could try and upgrade locally, so not to sure where to go next. Any ideas?

Also I've just installed 4.8.2 on it's own to make sure that installation works on my system and everything with that is fine, so not sure what' s breaking things when it upgrades

Ah ha! Just got it to work, don't exactly know how but think it may have been something to do with the web.config.

I reverted back to the 4.5.5 version then copied the installation version of 4.8.2 over that installation along with the web.config file, replaced the machine key with my old one updated the database settings and it went ahead and upgraded no probs.

Might be handy to know in case this happens to someone else.

Cheers

Mark
