IMO the most common "problem" is that you may not be looking in the right place. When you first open up the VS project templates, you're likely looking at C# projects.

Remember, although the Starter Kit now seems to install some C# support of some sort, it's still a VB module... You'll have to browse to VB > Web where you should see your DNN module template.

I am having the same issue of not seeing the DNN template.  I am looking at VB-WEB and the only option in the My Templates section is to search online...

I have verified that the start-kit zip files are installed in the following folders.

My documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\Item Templates\Visual Web Developer\Module_CS.zip
My documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\Item Templates\Visual Web Developer\Module_VB.zip
My documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\Item Templates\Visual Web Developer\Simple_VB.zip
My documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\Item Templates\Visual Web Developer\Skin.zip
My documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\Project Templates\Visual Web Developer\DotNetNuke.zip
My documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\Project Templates\Visual Basic\Module_Compiled_VB.zip
My documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\Project Templates\Visual C#\Module_Compiled_CS.zip

1) File -> New -> Web Site...
2) in bottom left corner of the New Web Site dialog, change the Language to "Visual Basic"
3) Now, in the "My Templates" section, you should "DotNetNuke Application Frame...

Hellow guys - Hope you all doing well.

Last day i also face the same problem you pplz are discussing here. I got a solution and want to share with you guys.

My environment.
Windows XP sp2
Visual web developer 2008
Sql Express 2005
DotNetNuke 5.1.1 Starter Kit

Ok, download and install the Dotnetnuke starter kit (DotNetNuke 5.1.1 Starter Kit) from dnn web site. I installed template to Visual Web developer 2008 but unfortunately for some reason I cant see the template to use. right.

Now, go to the template installed folder on your machine. In my case the folder path is as below

C:\Documents and Settings\MyComputerName\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\ProjectTemplates\Visual Web Developer

Ok, find DotNetNuke.zip file there, unzip that file and open it in vs 2008 as web site.

now this is the template loaded in your vs 2008 and you can move forward for module development and it will show you other module templates.

Hope this helps.
Cheers
aQadar.
