My issue was that my hosting provider had changed the smtp server address I was using.

I'm having the same issue with 4.7.0

I don't want to select any roles but even if I do i get the message. my admin role contains a few users.

I have made a new module using the newsletter module and have adjusted it so It adds emailadresses that are located in another table. This all works I'm just stuck on the fact that it won't send because of the "No Messages were sent, maybe due to empty roles" error. The settings in the host section are correct and sending the test email works.

Awaiting your assistance.. Thanks in advance.

this sounds very weird, do you have any issues reported in your event log?

Did you test SMT Server configuration in Host Settings successfully?

I did send a test message from the host confiuration of the SMTP and recieved that no problem.

The Exceptions log reported the following (minus me cleaning up "valid" e-mail addresses:

if the recipient's email address does not match a valid email account, the mail cannot get delivered - please use valid and existing email addresses only. This is not a limitation of the Newsletter module - you will get the same issue when sending an email from your own email program.

this is difficult to assist as long as I don't know about your module. Be aware, that cmdSend_Click in bulkmail.ascx.vb emits this message in 2 cases: it  first evaluates, if there are entries in users and/or roles selected and eventually does not call send if there are none, and second it displays the message, if send has been called but returns, that no messages were sent due to any issue. I fear, that you need to debug. what happpens in your module.
