Given my three latest, different posts that I have made concerning what Charles Nurse has said was "a common problem" no one seems inclined to provide an answer.   I find it difficult to believe there is no asnswer to my post given Charles Nurse's prior comments.

And that is probably my fault(?)  for aggressively pointing out DNN's implementation weakness's and submitting my comments/suggestions in that area.  Diplomatic conversation/style is not one of my strong points.  And yes, people get testy when questioned, but if one does not question, how can there be progress?

I do not apolgize for voicing the common frustrations related to installing DNN.  For each of you that has sucessfully installed DNN (one flavor or another) I congratulate you.

Hi GAinsworth,

Voicing frustrastions in IT circles is common, especially when they are common frustrations.  Most people involved in Open Source Initiatives such as this enjoy the IT industry and helping each other out.  Those who have been on the receiving end of support and are successfully using DNN and its feature rich modular services, are eager to become problem solvers themselves.  I cannot begin to even think were I would begin to thank the DNN Core members and the DNN community as a whole, other than to help out others in the very limited capacity I can.

On behalf of me, your non-apology is accepted.  I've noticed your website is down.  If you are looking for assistance with getting DNN up and running let me know as I would be glad to help. Also, many ISPs offer DNN as a built in "service" that you can take advantage of to quickly build your site and get it up and running.  Best of Luck!

John

Thanks for your comment John, and I appreciate it.

While I've not spent much time/service in the current"Open Source Initiatives",  I have spent several decades in international standards work.  I'm probably dating myself, but somehere in my files is a much annotated document showing  the my comments and suggested changes to the "5 Layer OSI Model".  That being said (and "5" is not a typo, that is where the proposed standard was at that the point in time that I started working in standards).

I just find it incredible that my current problem was labeled "a common problem" on one of this site's blogs, yet no one seems to be able to give me an answer on how to fix it.

Hi GAinsworth!

Wow, I must admit methodology, standards, UML, etc., are not my favorite subjects to delve into.  A recent attempt at reading a highly rated book on Extreme Programming proved futile.  The Wrox DotNetNuke book has an interesting introduction on how this effort came together and what hurdles and challenges were overcome.  I recall using Anderson's Method-1 with the various gates that we needed to get thru even before a project was funded (...I am dating myself, too!).

I have a few open posts on different boards asking for assistance on how to "sync" or export my database to my ISP in SQL 2005.  My frustration is that what was so easy in SQL 2000, i.e. the Export Wizard, does not accomplish the task of moving my SQL database to my remote site since some of the features have been removed!!! Argh!  And this is a common problem that people are finding "hacks" at, but I just think I must be missing something with SQL 2005 being so new to me.

If you are still having the same problem (sorry, I missed your other post so don't know what issue(s) you are having), please feel free to email me at itfriend@dls.net or post it here.  I would be happy to take a crack at it.  My offer still stands regarding assistance in getting a DNN site up and running (less my issue, not specific to DNN, with exporting the database to the ISP).  I do have VS 2K3/SQL 2000 & VS 2K5/SQL 2K5 and can get either up and running w/o a hitch.

Best of luck!

John

I have no idea what you are talking about, or what seems to be a common problem with no answers.  I will agree DNN is a pain in the butt to install on a host.  I have no problems installing it locally, then everything goes to hell when I try to upgrade my site.  I wonder why everything was made pretty painless, except the editing of the web.config or at least a simple readme reminding everyone on how to upgrade.
