Hello DNN community,

I am hoping you guys can rescue me once again or send me down the right path. I am STUCK!!!

Here is my senario:

I have several DNN 4.5.1 sites installed on two different servers. I am trying to consolidate to my new 8-way high end server. The current server setups are W2k3 32bit servers with SQL 2005 Enterprise 32bit  installed. My new server setup is W2k3 Enterprise 64bit with SQL 2005 Enterprise 64bit installed. My sites are running fine on the current servers. Both the current and new servers are in the same A.D. schema so I decided to do a SQL Export and Import to move the databases. When I did the first Export/Import I received no errors in SQL. It looks like all the tables moved over without any issues. I manually moved all the data. When I make my DNS change and point it to the new server, I get the following error message. "The stored procedure 'dbo.tem_GetPortalAliasByPortalID' doesn't exist.

What does this mean..... or have I gone about moving my DNN instances to the new server completely incorrectly.

Any help would be appreciated. I am in a bind.

Thanks,

You'll want to backup/restore your databases, I've seen lots of buggy setups if with clients who've just tried to use import/export in SQL for DNN databases.

That is where I would begin with this whole process.

thank you Chris for assisting me.....

This is what I tried (which lead me to using export/import)

I backed up my current database. I went to the new server and created a DM with the same name. I created a db_owner using the same name that was on my old server. I then tried a restore from the backup from my current server (keep in mind my current server is 32 bit and my new server is 64 bit - if that matters) and I get the following error message:

Restore failed for Server 'XXXXX'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

Additional information:

An exception occried while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

The backup set holds a backup of a databse other thatn the existing 'XXXXXXXXX' database.

RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3154)

On my website (http://www.mitchelsellers.com) I have a tutorial for backups and a tutorial for restores.  I would recommend having a look at those as they provide the full detail needed.

Thanks Mitch for your assistance.....

As I stated in my earlier post, I have tried this several times during this process (note my error message when trying to backup and restore) which is why I went to the export/import option.  I am looking for information on the error message I get after the import/export which is:

The stored procedure 'dbo.tem_GetPortalAliasByPortalID' doesn't exist

Acutally the export/import function seemed to work very smoothly. Does anyone out there have any idea why my backup/restore and my export/import is giving me fits going from a 32 bit server to a 64 bit server?

Thanks,
