Greetings All,

I have a client who wants to edit a list in DNN eg: a table.  Each list contains names of other people, but due to privacy, no one else on the list except a registered users' name and their details are allowed to appear once they have logged in to view the info - and it must only be their info.

How can this be done where the Admin can edit a list but when a registered user sees the list all they see are their own details?

Is this something custom I need to build or has it been done already?

Any ideas anyone?
Thanks,

Dan

In general the answer is that this is something you need to build yourself however XMod has this sort of functionality available.  The thing with XMod is that you'd still have to build it yourself using their framework, but it is "easier" for some people than creating a module specifically to give this sort of functionality.

UDT (User Defined Table) *might* have this functionality as well... I haven't really used that module but I know it has some different formatting types and views and possibly can lock down permissions a little deeper on it.

You could probably use a UDT with custom XSLT for this.  The preset "OnlyOwnRecords" XSLT would help you in figuring out the correct code in custom XSLT.

I've also been looking for this functionality in a module... you'll see an old dead post from me in the xmod forums about it.

It was mainly for a place that leases space in its wine cellar to people who own a lot of wine.

  • The wine cellar owner needs to be able to see and edit all stock data.
  • Each registered user would only see their own wines
  • I also needed the ability for the registered users to select certain bottles to have them delivered.
  • I just recalled that it also needed to eb able to import the data from a CSV

I'm very interested if you find the functionality or someone who can make it. I have another person who would also like to have something vaguely similar.

Rob

Rob,

I believe that xMod could do it, but I know I could build a custom module for it quite easily....drop me an e-mail if you would like to talk about it msellers@iowacomputergurus.com
