Given the extent of customization that the Store Module offers all of us, what if you could upload a single CSV file that could create 100's if not 1000's of products automatically? The ability to upload and manage all your products in one CSV file makes it extremely easy to update whole categories of products. There would be no limit to how many listings you could create in a single upload!

I haven't tried it myself (yet) but I am under the impression that this feature already exists within the store, only you need to use XML rather than CSV.

You put the XML file into the portal folder structure and then "Import Content" on the catalogue module pull-down menu.  The items and categories are created in the shop according the to XML.

I have no idea what checks are and are not performed before the import and I have just read another article that suggests importing can lead to duplicate data, so I would recommend caution and plenty of testing before using this on a live shop.

Cheers

Stuart

If you are using the DNN default import/export option supported by Store, just be careful because Store won't check whether he categories/products you are importing are already existing or not; it will simply import entire file contents. Since each category/product is assigned its unique "ID" inside the Categories/Products table, duplicate title's don't matter and hence everytime you perform import export you have to manually remove existing categories/products from the file before you perform import. It will not update existing category/product, it will create a new one.

Yes, it's more of a method of exporting data from test - > production rather than an offline management tool.

Is there a way to use Microsoft's SQL Server Management Studio to import products into the store using an excel file? Do you have an example template I can use to build the bulk upload? You can deffinately import data into the database using an excel file in Microsoft's SQL Server Management Studio, here's how you import:

In Microsoft's SQL Server Management Studio go to Database --> Select Task --> then Import Data --> finally Choose Excel File.

I just need to figure out how to setup the columns in the excel file (usually along the top) and reference the Store_Products Table.
