Complete newb here. Appologies in advance for my incompetence. I'v been trying to install dnn on my vista machine which is running on a 2003 server. I have VWD 2008 installed and SQL server 2005. I have followed every installation tutorial there is and the video that is posted by Train cert, but still having no luck. even tried installing previous version. I'm probably doing something obviously wrong so someone please enlighten me!!

The first thing I notice that is wrong is according to the TrainCert installation video I am supposed to edit SiteSqlServer entry in  the web.config file. My web.config file doesn't look anything like the one in the video plus mine is only 1Kb and the one in the video is 19Kb. So something has gone wrong here and I can't edit this because there isn't anything to edit.

Secondly I move on to see if this really matters and I guess it does. I go to my browser and type http://localhost/dotnetnuke/ and I get the

HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden

The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey danvoyce,

to resolve the Forbidden issue, you may need to ensure that a default document of "Default.aspx" is listed in the IIS application properties (IIS -> website directory -> right click -> properties -> default document -> add).

Also, for the web.config issue, what package are you using? A source or install version? What version of DNN -  4.8.2?

If you are using the source version, you should look for a development.config or a release.config and rename this to web.config.

Take care,

Ian

Thanks Ian.

default.aspx is listed. I'v worked my way from error message to error message. Doing what it suggest but now I am on

HTTP Error 500.23 - Internal Server Error

An ASP.NET setting has been detected that does not apply in Integrated managed pipeline mode.

I really don't know what I'm doing with this now and have edited and adjusted so many things I think I'm going to try a fresh install on an XP machine with IIS 6 rather than IIS 7.

Not much time to do this right away though so will probably attempt tommorow.

Any tips or suggestions before I go ahead would be appreciated.

Thanks again!

Did you install version 4.8.2?  Did you read the Installing on Vista pinned thread?

I did install 4.8.2. Did not read the vista pinned thread? I'll have a look for it now. Do you have a link?

Thanks

Dan
