Hello.  I'm new to the site and to DNN.  Pardon me if this isn't the best location for this message... I tried to pick the most appropriate forum.

I'm currently in the process of evaluating DNN as a replacement for our existing MaxWebPortal solution, however we're very tied to our existing News setup and would hate not to have something equivalent.  Our current system allows us to post messages in the site's forum and mark them as "News".  When this happens the site will then show the most recent news items on the site's main menu.  The number of news items to display and size of the summery is configurable and all past news items are stored in the forums until deleted (if ever).

Ideally we'd like something very similar.  Does DNN provide functionality such as this?

Many Thanx!

Well, no and yes.  There are news syndication features available in most all DNN modules that allow placement and design customization.  You can create a 'most recent news' area on any page, however the syndication is a bit different than you describe.  My advice is to download DNN, install, and use it on an available workstation to 'test' drive it.

I don't have any familiarity with using MaxWebPortal, so it's difficult to do any comparision.  Although, I did visit their site, and really don't see the kinds of support, variety of modules, or customization opportunities available that are part of DNN.  The Forums were not available, so I could not tell what the general feel of the community is towards the solution.  So, I say give DNN a test drive, and I think you would find it a capable solution alternative.

Cheers
