Is there any way to lock the pane size on the actual site. vs. taking the whole skin back into editing sorftware. I want to lock the left pane to a specific size, but cant seem to repack the skin correctly after i ve done this to get it back to the site.

Hi MHullinger,

I'm not sure exactly what skin you're referring to here.  If it's just a simple change on a single installation, you might be able to get away with editing the skin.css file.  You can find this file in the Portals/[PortalId]/Skins/[SkinName]/ subdirectory, where [PortalId] is the portal number that the skin is stored under (and "_Default" if it's installed for all portals), and [SkinName] is the name of the skin.

So for the DNN-Blue skin, installed for all portals, you'd look in this directory:  \Portals\_default\Skins\DNN-Blue

For many small changes, you can just tweak the classes defined in this file.

Hope this points you in the right direction!

Brandon

It's easier to edit the files on the server. I use Expression Web, but one can presumably use any other web editor as well. You can also use ftp. Smartftp is a good one and will handle down and uploading automatically while you make edits. Anotehr option that I'm really enjoying is a new module called SLS Filemanager. There's a post about it in the annoucements forum yesterday and I promptly gave it my approval there as well. It lets you edit any file on the server in place, no downloading or anything. If you know what you're doing then it's a lot of fun to use.

You should of course learn how to package a skin as well. Have a look at some of the freebie skins and see how they're packed up. You have no paths in any of the zips, unless you've spcifically created sub folders for images. Just files in each. the skin files in a skins.zip and the container files in a containers.zip and then put both of those in a new zip and give it the name of the skin. Then upload it.
