OK, I looked around this forum, but I can't see anything that actually relates to a newer version of DNN having this issue.

I've seen the item about uncommenting something in web.config.  Unfortunately when I do that it says that "Authentication" was already added - which it was, since I'm running both DNN login and AD login.

AD Login works great... now I just want it to auto-login.  I have the IP Address entered as "192.168.110" because my entire network falls into that network (/24).  According to the example given in the little help popup (which I think is brilliant, btw), that format should work.  I also tried 192.168.110.1-192.168.110.254, but that didn't work any better.

The settings on the Authentication page for AD are as follows:

enabled: checked

Hide Login Controls:  unchecked

Synchronize Role:  unchecked

Provider:  ADSIAuthenticationProvider

Authentication Type:  Delegation

Root Domain:  blank (if I put my proper domain in here, it doesn't work anymore)

Username: DOMAIN\username

Password:  password

Confirm Password:  password (actually both of these go blank once the Update Settings link is clicked)

Email Domain:  @domain.com (real email domain suffix)

Auto-login IP Address (Optional): 192.168.110

Any thoughts about what I'm missing?

In the <httpModules> section of your web.config there should be two <add name="Authentication".../> listed. The first one should be commented out and the second one shouldn't. Is this the case with yours?

Also, for now until you get it working, leave the Auto-Login blank so that it forces every IP to attempt to auto-login.

Yes the passwords go blank when Update is clicked by design. They're still stored in the database though.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the assistance.  Yes, I have only the second "Authentication" line uncommented (that's how it was when I went in to look at it, and uncommented the first one to produce the error of loading two things named "Authentication" - I then re-commented out the top one).

I removed the IP address indicator (I assumed that no IP Addresses would mean that nothing would be auto-login), and when I cleared my cache, cookies, and closed IE, then opened it to go in again, it popped up the IE-generated login box.  I have the site in the "Trusted Sites" security group.  Once I manually entered my login information (DOMAIN\username format) it logged in successfully.  I'm guessing there is still something I'm missing that is some setting to make it just get the existing credentials...

No IP means that everyone IP is attempts to automatically login. This causes a problem when you have a public facing site as they'll always get the IIS login box but if you can set the IPs to internal network IPs then they won't get it.

If it's in your trusted list then it's possible that either the server needs a patch or possibly your workstations do. Take a look at the other thread you posted in as I think a couple of possible fixes are in there.

Well, I read all of that, and even went through the page that Microsoft had about the issue.... no resolution.  So I've basically abandoned autologin.  Which is unfortunate.  I just turned off the standard DNN login (so AD is the only option) and added in the script found elsewhere to eliminate needing to type in the domain as part of the username.  Removed the main page from All Users and made it visible only to registered users, and now any time someone goes to the site it prompts them to log in.

If anyone has any other thoughts on why my setup still isn't automatically logging in feel free to share.
