I am attempting to design my first skin for use in DNN 4.8.2. I have read the DotNetNuke Skinning Guide and viewed examples of other skins. I am able to upload my skin successfully (at least no errors are reported) and it is available as a skin selection. However, when I set a page's skin to my skin and then attempt to view the page, I receive the following error:

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. ). ---> System.Web.HttpException: The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. ). at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.UserControl.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl(Control control, Int32 index) at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnInit(EventArgs e) at DotNetNuke.Framework.PageBase.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

I have no clue as to what is wrong and do not know how to proceed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

In Christ,

Chris

Hi Chris,

You didn't specify -- DOES your skin contain code blocks (<% = codecodecode %>)?  Because of the way DNN processes skins, one often has to tiptoe around what is contained within these blocks.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the response.

My first upload contained some code blocks at the very beginning of the file via an oversight on my part. I removed them and re-uploaded the skin... no effect. Seeing your question, I wondered if I should have deleted the prior skin upload before re-uploaing it just in case thee was a remnant of something laying around. Consequently, I deleted the skin package and reloaded it. Unfortunately...no effect.

I did not include a copy of my HTML, CSS, or XML figuring it would make this message too big and annoy others. I could send them to you via eMail attachments if you would be willing to take a look and point me in the right direction. As I said earlier, this is my first attempt at skinning and although I have read the guide and looked at others examples, I am sure I am missing something very simple. I just do not know where to look or how to decipher the exception message fo assistance.

If you would be willing to take a quick look at the files I would be very appreciative. Just let me know how to get them to you. Thanks.

In Christ,

Chris

Hi Chris, I'll be happy to take a quick look over your skin. My username is brandon.haynes, and the domain name is located underneath my name to the left (ending with .net). You'll likely need to zip any files you attach to prevent them from being automatically filtered. Brandon
