Why did you annunce this impossible stuff on the express versions? This is clearly not for beginners! I can't even read the installation documentation.

but you can easily develop custom modules, even with Visual Studio Express for Web Developers, check out the tutorials at dotnetnuke.adefwebserver.com.

Besides there is "Detailed installation guide" tutorial on Resources > Documentation > Downloadable files menu item above.

As mentioned above you can develope with VWD without issue.  For installation assistance I recommend looking at my install guide available at http://www.mitchelsellers.com.

Now, one limitation of VWD is that you will NOT be able to modify all projects if you want to customize modules as the WAP project type is not supported.

Visual Web Developer is not strictly fotr beginners either.  If you're not at the stage where you can understand the documentation, then don't use this product.  Or any product where you can't understand how to use it.

Let's also clarify that you DO NOT need any development tool whatsoever to get DNN installed and running.  Just download the "Install" package and forget about opening the project and compiling, it is ready to run out of the box.

And opposed to what you may think from reading the downloads page, the Install package is the whole DNN enchilada, the only thing missing is the source code of the core.  And I would recommend you to stay away from the source code anyway, I do module development using the Install package.

But is not your fault Karl, the downloads page really needs a lot of work.  I make this clarification about the Install package versus Source at least a couple of times every week.  It confuses noobies a lot and can be unnecessarily frustrating.

Please DNN Admins, update the downloads page already and don't put the Source package on top, very few people really need and use the core source anyway.  And after all the mantra here is not to fool with the core so that you can easily apply DNN core upgrades down the road.
