Any module that puts out RSS will let you put a list of title and partial article bodies on other pages.. and even other sites.

Some modules such as Ventrian's and also Active Forum, provide purpose built modules that do much the same thing but only work with thier own modules.

Ventrian's one is very flexible, much more so than one could achieve just with RSS and templates.

The archiving is merely the fact that articles that are no longer visible on the list can still be browsed by date, category and author. There is a sub module for this.
