My client has asked me to install DNN 4.8.0 in a GoDaddy envronment.  I installed DNN using GoDaddy's install routine.  I can get DNN to load, but I see the following error message when I try to use any of the following functions from the Page Functions group: Add, Settings, Copy, Export, and Import.

A critical error has occurred.
Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

Also, three menu items generate an error related to permissions:

  • Admin, Site Settings
  • Admin, Newsletters
  • Host, Host Settings

The text of the error message is:

This is due to the ASP.NET worker process not having permissions to modify the underlying file system.

You will need to open a support ticket with them to have the permissions modified, however, I know they are very reluctant to do so.

Mitch:  Thank you for the information. What specific instructions should I give to GoDaddy?  Which folder(s) should I ask to have modified and what modification should I ask for?

To provide the best consistency for DotNetNuke functionality the ASP.NET Worker process should have FULL permissions to the entire DNN site, including root.

SO your request to them would go something like this.

To Support:

Please modify the ASP.NET worker account permissions to have full file control to the root and all sub folders of my installation for _______ domain.  This will allow DotNetNuke the adequate permissions to operate successfully.
