I'm getting myself confused here. I am not sure if I have made a complete pig's ear out of this.

* I have VWD and SQL server 2005 correctly installed (I think)

* I installed 4.02 using the .VSI and created a web site in VWD called PaulCotter.com in a file system located at c:\web\PaulCotter.com\

* In VWD, I press F5  and the ASP development server on port 1453 jumps into life and an IE window springs up and I am at my DNN home page.

* I can define all the content, admin/host stuff.

* If I stop VWD the ASP development server on port 1453 continues to run in the system tray.

* Using IIS I added a web site and pointed it at c:\web\paulcotter.com, and default.aspx is a valid start document.

* If I open a new IE window and put in 127.0.0.1 it is redirected to http://localhost:1453/paulcotter.com/. (Sorry I do not know how to get rid of that hyperlink)

Why? .

* If I stop the ASP development server then opening IE at 127.0.0.1 gives a server not found - as we would expect.

What is the fundamental flaw in what I am doing? What procedure is needed to move from VWD to IIS

Paul

To run on IIS, first add http://localhost/dotnetnuke as a portal alias from Admin>Site Settings in DNN. Then call the site from explorer.

Thank you for the reply. I am running V4 and when logged on as admin there there does not appear to be a 'portal alias' option under the site settings.

However when logged on as host and I navigate to

Host > Portals > Edit Portal

...there is a Portal Aliases module where I can add
 http://localhost/PaulCotter.com

If I do that, open up IE and enter //127.0.0.1 or //localhost then I am redirected to

http://localhost:1936/paulcotter.com/

If I stop the vwd development server and in IE go //127.0.0.1  IE gives me 'Page is not currently available'.

I explained myself badly before. What I wanted was that when I entered 127.0.0.1 in IE I would go via IIS to the web site.

IIS is running and the website on port 80 is pointing at the VWD web site created using the dnn template.

Regards - Paul Cotter

Since IIS is pointing to the DNN root, just add localhost to the Portal Alias list
