Hi,

If anyone is interested, I've put together a couple of tutorials on my website with more to come:

1.  Installing DNN on localhost running IIS7 and  Vista.

2.  Creating basic Hello World module.

Cheers, Al

Ya know Al,

You may very well be my new best friend.  This is exactly what I was looking for - a simple reference to how to create a DNN module without the frills and whistles.

What I am trying to do actually is add a special search box (search by lastname and zip code) to the top of every page (will probably place that in the actual skin HTML itself).   Then I'm going to create a new page ... create my own simple display results module where I can  hopefully retrieve (from POST) the variables sent from my custom HTML search form and then simply display them on the page.

You don't happen to know of anything similar to this before I go to the bother - seems very simple to me but I can't seem to find anything out there -- the existing search and results function only allows basic searches (can't search for X AND Y) and the the results is not configurable to receive passed variables from POST.  Other mods like Reports  can't retrieve from POST either.

Dave,

For your inserting into the skin part, I would look at doing your implementation via a Skin Object, rather than hard coding into the skin!

Hi Dave,

I'm glad you found the article helpful.  I would second Mitch's suggestion to create a skin object to handle the type of functionality you are looking for.
