I've configured the web.config file and uploaded all the files to our host.  All we get is a "Runtime" error page asking us to add an entry to the webconfig file so that we can see what the errors.  When we do this nothing happens.  We seem to have hit a brick wall.  Has anybody got any ideas?

You'll need to get a more detailed error out of the system, otherwise it's gonna be tough to troubleshoot.

That's the problem, we can't get an actual error message.  I think that we're looking to source DNN friendly hosting for the time being.

You'd never get this with Linux!!

What do you mean nothing happens? Do you mean you get the same error again telling you to edit your web.config or do you get another error?

You didn't post what the error was but it sounds like it's the basic "The webserver isn't going to display this error to the masses in case it contains important information unless you specifically tell it to" error. Did you change the following

<customErrors mode="Off" />
to
<customErrors mode="Remote"  />(or whatever the exact word is that it tells you to use).
. If you have then have you talked to your host about the error?

As far as you wouldn't see this in Linux.... sure you would if the configuration wasn't setup correctly.

I've tried the custom error thingy as both:

<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly"/> & <customErrors mode="off"/>

I get the below error message whatever the setting is.  In fact, if I delete the config file completely, I still get the same message.

The exact message is as follows:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>
