I would like to offer my apologies to anyone who felt that i got a little too hot under the collar yesterday, in my comments on the "Security Issue"

It has been a trying week for everyone - and I should have known better - I am usually the one to countenance a cooling down period.

And this morning I'm really browned off - as my team "Bristol City" lost their chance to get into the English Premier league (see my Blog) - so I am going to have a few beers tonight to drown my sorrows.

As the person who posted the message calling for old-fashioned apologies from all parties, let me express my sincere thanks to Charles Nurse for doing so as a representative of DNN Core.

Now let's also hear from the folks from PowerDNN. How about another good old-fashioned apology as well for any missteps, miscommunications, etc? How about also a public commitment in the future to adhere to any and all of the security policies established by the DNN Community as a group all working together?

Meanwhile, I also called for everybody working together to solve problems. I am encountering issues with the membership provider and user manager. See my separate posts in the Configure It forum whereby I report that verification emails are being sent without the necessary verification codes for a new user to log in successfully.

I have also discovered other issues related to the appearance and image of "security", if not substance of security, and I will report these separately and privately to DNN Core. Lets all continue to work as diligently as we can through proper channels to improve both the substance and the appearance of security for everybody's benefit, and that means the entire community.

So PowerDNN guys, step up to the plate, and offer your public apology as well, and please state your public commitment to work with DNN Core Team per published security policies.

Sorry to hear about Bristol (I spent a month there myself, lovely place). Still Charles, there is always the Eurovision song contest tonight (GMT). I know that Cathal must be gutted already:

Thank you Charles, we have an enormous amount of respect for you and the Core team here at PowerDNN.  I think the fact that we all have a mutual respect for eachother got lost amidst the flurry of activity and high emotion this week.  I would like to apologize to anyone who felt that PowerDNN did them a disservice by how the security issue was handled.  This was not intentional, by any means, and you have our apologies.   In the future, we will continue to work hard to ensure our customers are secure, but upon the discovery of vulnerabilities we will be more careful about how we communicate the information as well as ensure the core team is envolved earlier in the process.  I am confident that, moving forward, we can continue the strong working relationship with the Core we have had in the past.

There has been much talk amongst members of the community that we intend to push our own "version" of DotNetNuke.  While PowerDNN does have features that are individual to our product, It is always going to be our top priority to ensure upgradability and compatibility with the Core DotNetNuke Framework.  Our product would not have nearly as much value if our customers could not go to the Marketplace or Snowcovered and use any module available in the ecosystem.  We look at what we are doing as augmenting DotNetNuke for businesses, not necessarily changing DotNetNuke to make it something else.  We love DotNetNuke and we respect DotNetNuke, and it is our responsibility as a member of the community to do what we can to ensure it's longevity and success.

I hope everyone was able to have a great Memorial Day weekend.  We have a new week ahead of us and I look forward to moving passed this incident.  If anyone has any more questions or comments about anything else, please feel free to contact at John.Grange@powerdnn.com.  Thanks.

John Grange
