I am a newb on DNN and I do not know how to point my site, www.mysite.com to show my site. It is currently installed (manual installation of 3.2) in a subdirectory (www.mysite.com/sub).

Can anyone assist in what my entries should be on GoDaddy's Total DNS Control page so when someone types in www.mysite.com, they get my page instead of the GoDaddy parked page?

Thanks,

Mike

Very sorry as I am not familiar with GoDaddy at all, so others may help there. But if their control panel allows you to add a new host to the IIS then that is what is needed. I have my own server so I would be adding new host header name www.yournewdomain.com in IIS if you already have a site pointing at the portal. However, if I was GoDaddy, then chances are I would not want someone that bought one instance of the portal with one domain name to install numerous new parent portals. So somehow I would be making it difficult for them to do so and tell them that they need to purchase a new package for every domain. (I may be mistaken however). Therefore, I would only allow people to have unlimited child portal on their site. So www.mysite.com/sub1-n is allowed.

Please refer to this thread Manually Install DotNetNuke on Go Daddy.

You will find the instructions for setting up on Go Daddy hosting on my website www.NorthernStarSolutions.com.  Please note that my website is running on Go Daddy hosting.

The instructions for setting up DotNetNuke in a subdirectory are flawed and create a significant sercurity risk.

Thanks Michael,

I get the distinction of the subfolder business. I have already installed DNN 3.2, with a SQL (not MySQL) database and have a lot of work into the site including uploading skins, modules, content etc.

Is there any way I can salvage all of my work if I decide to re-install? And would you recommend installing DNN 4.0 instead of 3.2? All of the modules I purchased are supposed to work for 4.0.

Thanks again for your insight,

Mike
