Hello all,

I have had several successful implementations on DNN 2 and DNN 3.  I cannot seem to find any sample sites or even list of benefits of going to DNN 4 and away from 3 ?

Even though DNN makes life easy, there is a touch of a learning curve and before I decide to go look at 4.0, I guess I would like to see some sites done in 4.0

Any links to either websites done in DNN 4 or some document that shows what is in 4 and not in 3 ?

Thank you

The way I understand it, the only real difference between the latest 3.x (3.2.2) and 4.x that starting with 4 it only works with asp.net 2.0 while 3.2 and up will still work with asp.net 1.1.  With 4 you need to use one of the visual studio 2005 flavors while with 3.2 you use vs 2003.  4 was restructured to conform with vs 2005's project layout which is quite a bit different from vs 2003.

If I missed anything, or am incorrect in anything, I'm sure someone with more knowledge of DNN 4x will correct me.  :)

The previous post correctly explains that there isn't much difference. However if you want to develop modules, you can develop them faster using the advanced features of ASP.NET 2.0. Things like Generics which allow you to use strongly typed classes with less code. GridView and FormView controld which provider more functinality with less code. Object Data Sources which just reduce code, period.

This is why you would want to use DNN4 vs. DNN3

Thank you all !

Another one then,

Will most modules work on both 3 and 4 ?  Or might one decide to choose DNN4 because most new versions of modules are available in DNN 4 only flavors ?

Just got it installed :)

Since people are slow to change, there will be far more DNN3 modules for the next year because most of the DNN3 modules will also work in DNN4.
