When applying multiple skins to a single portal to have different layouts for different areas of the site, are there any performance ramifications that one should be worried about?  Currently we are in the process of migrating from another CMS product where we have approximately 30-50 templates (several variations of a similar template, with the location and number of panes differing between them).  Is the only way to accomplish multiple layouts with separate skins?  Would implementing 30-50 skin in a single portal instance effect performance of the portal?  If so what is a safe number of skins to implement without effecting performance?

Thanks.

Derek

I don't see why the number of skins would make any significant difference.  DNN selects the skin files to merge when the request is made, it doesn't parse all the skins for a request that only implements one.

You know, a quick rethink and the CSS file may be an issue if the CSS for all 50 skins is different and all included in a single skin.css file.

Jeff is right, but if that was the case his current cms would be running terribly as well.

As I posted in the other thread about this, and as Jeff points out DNN just grabs and parses the skin / CSS on a per page bases. Beyond having a really huge horrid CSS file you should be fine, regardless of how many skins you have.

In other words, other than maintaining a relatively large css file that contains the styles for all 50 skins, there are relatively little to no drawbacks?

Thanks.
