 Hi,

I am trying to upgrade from 4.3.x to 4.8.3 and I read this article at :  http://www.mitchelsellers.com/Blogs/tabid/54/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/194/Upgrading-to-DotNetNuke-482-from-4x.aspx

In it he says this:

Incremental Upgrades?

One common question that I get from people is which version of DNN is safe to come from with a single upgrade to 4.8.2. In my experiences I have found that if you are on a version < 4.4.1 that it is best to first upgrade to 4.4.1, then to 4.6.2, then to the most current version.  I know people that have had success with direct upgrades, but I have found them to be more successful following this pattern.  If you are currently on a version between 4.4.1 and less than 4.6.0 I would recommend going to 4.6.2 first, then going to 4.8.2.

Okay, so I went to download 4.4.1, and its not on this site to download, nor is it in the legacy files on sourceforge.  So how am I supposed to upgrade?  and wouldnt it be useful to put the information on that article in the docs?  I know this is awesome free open source stuff, but it wastes a tremendous amount of time finding some simple instructions.  Anyone have suggestions?  should I just upgrade to 4.6.2 and then upgrade to 4.8.3?

A while back, I upgraded a few sites from DNN 3.3.7 to 4.5.5.  I consistently got two SQL script upgrade errors.  Visit this link to see a screenshot.  From the screenshot, you can see two errors as the result of upgrading DNN 4.3. to 4.4.  After doing some research, I learned that these two errors can be ignored in our environment.

Recently I upgraded several sites from DNN 4.5.5 to 4.8.3 without any problem at all.  I used the DNN 4.8.3 upgrade package.  I renamed the Release.config to Web.config, update the connection string and descryption key and then copy the upgrade package over the existing DNN 4..5.5 folder.

Since you are on DNN 4.3.X, I think  it is safe to GO ALL THE WAY to 4.8.3.   To insure successful upgrade, copy the production DNN and db and restore on the test server and test the upgrade first.  If upgrade success, test all custom modules (if any).  Before upgrade the production, backup both production DNN app and dnn DB.

I did a couple 3.3.7 sites to 4.8.3 the other days after the recent issues found in DNN. I also ran across the issues as Fuji, but after examination It looks like it was corrected in a later script and was not an issue.

I have written an article on this Upgrading DNN From 3.3.7 To 4.8.3

The experience of the individuals above is very unusal from what I have noticed with ALL other upgrades that I have completed.

I just did one this weekend that had to be done incrementally.....it doesn't add that much time and is a bit less risky in my opinion....but it is just my 2 cents.

Does anybody have any advice on locating the 4.4.1 and 4.6.2 Install packages to complete the Incremental?  Would anyone be willing to email them?
