I don't have an answer but am looking for some similar formatting type stuff for the registration page.  It sounds like your search was exhaustive, but I will reply back if I find anything of worth.

Whelp, my journey took me to Data Springs’ Forms 2.6., as well as their Dynamic Registration.

It is costly should you wish to produce at the enterprise level, but well worth the expenditure as it offers a vast array of differing ways in which to present your website, both in function and design.

The problem at hand, at least in regards to this specific post, is more a function of programming style/strategy of DNN’s core.

ASP.NET's “code-behind model” originally had in mind to separate a developer’s code from a designer’s mark up, thus allowing both to complete their respective tasks without much infringement upon the other. A noble wish within a perfect world to be sure, however, reality states differently especially within the context of an ongoing development of a templated framework such as DNN; but more importantly, within the context of an open sourced framework.

But honestly, the inability to augment the most simplistic markup aspects of such important functions of a website, such as the registration/login page, at least in my humble opinion, is a significant unbalanced infringement within this delicate balancing act between function and design. And again, at least at front value, a result of perhaps too many programmers and not enough good designer’s within DNN’s Core Team.

And as nothing more than a footnote, the above most likely funnel’s itself directly towards the important question of DNN’s development horizon. Namely, does it have a good eye on it’s customer base? And yes, even open sourced projects do have definitive and well descriptive customers/users.

At empathy, I think I would put my money towards the majority being somewhere between a ‘Go Daddy’ website developer and one who falls just shy to client side SQL/Java scripting. Perhaps a reason why Sebastian sounds so frustrated at times 

Anyways, at the minimum, this post is nothing more than ‘grassroots’ swaying in the wind..
