Thanks for your suggestions. I made sure I had all the folders you mentioned, but that didn't help. I also tried looking into the VS content installer and attempted a couple of tricks. But my small efforts in that direction didn't pay off, and I don't want to spend much time learning about VSI theory and techniques.

Anyhow, I've been installing and uninstalling junk on my system for a long time, and it's been getting flakier and flakier. Maybe now is the time to start over with a clean install of Win XP. (Groan!!!!)

Then, if that doesn't allow me to install the starter kit, I can always install IIS, forget about the starter kit, and use the full DNN installation package.
